This flipping of the sun's magnetic poles, accompanied by a temporary increase in sun-spot activity, is something that occurs every eleven years, so anyone who's been around for awhile has been through a number of such flips.

Business as usual.

Rather than a massive electromagnetic pulse that will disrupt electrical equipment here on earth, the incident will pass unnoticed--as it has once every eleven years--for millennia!

The only thing I recall about any of these events was once, when I was a kid, for a week or two there was a lot of static on the radio--an old Zenith console model--with several short-wave bands.

That's the only time I recall ever being aware that something was going on.

As far as an EMP emitted by the sun is concerned, the earth's atmosphere and the earth's own magnetic field tend to nullify that.

Much ado about a somewhat large--but very regular--astronomical event that most people don't even notice.
