A couple of points. 1. According to Partridge, "Scads" means "Much; e.g. 'scads of money': adopted, ca. 1935, from US, esp. by would be 'slick' thriller-writers." And 2. If you like Dillard Chandler, get hold of the Smithsonian Folkways CD & DVD set "Dark Holler - Old Love Songs and Ballads" (SFW CD 40159). The DVD is a copy of John Cohen's film "The End of an Old Song". It captures Dillard, his music and his comunity far better than anything before, or since.
