Sonnet 24/01/06                                     MXLIII

How can I balance longing with desire
To know my muse is happy? Is there chance
She might her lines resume, or does she tire?
Will she for my verse spare even a glance?
Wanting her smile, perhaps I should not tell
Of hopes, or my desires. Yet, she is muse,
The reason for verse: With her, all is well;
Without, dreams only heart and soul confuse.
Can I think about her, and not muse seek?
Not under stars, or moon, or sun: She holds
The power to dream of life to soul speak,
Yet, it cannot be muse that dream enfolds.
She is heart's hope, and dream's desire, but all
That I now hold cannot her smile recall.
