George J. Gaskin- a man who should be better known. A famous tenor as well as composer, he popularized many songs that were long-remembered, if not by the latest generations.

Wikipedia gives a list of 26 of his recordings that still exist. Seventeen are songs I remember.
"Drill ye Terriers (Tarriers) Drill" from 1891 certainly made it into current times, as well as the old wedding cliché, "O Promise Me." "After the Ball" and "Slide Kelly Slide", ......

These songs are "folk" as far as I am concerned.
