I was "installed" as a Trustee of the local Elks Lodge this evening, formalizing something I've been doing for four year as a replacement. I was also given the "Outstanding Service Award" (ahem!). Note the "Outstanding" part.

If you want to join the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks you have to believe in some sort of God, be over 21, and an American. There used to be a comparable organization in Canada but too many said, "Yes, I'm an Elk" and got themselves shot. Americans can apparently tell the difference. No, we do not wear funny hats and stuff. Everything you might want to know about the organization is online. Unlike the Idaho Legion its rituals aren't secret.
