A territory claimed by a neighbouring country - a claim recognised by most countries in the continent where it is situated - has a population who prefer to belong to another far stronger country. The stronger country, which is in control of the territory, organises a referendum asking the inhabitants what they want, and they vote overwhelmingly to belong to that country.

The neighbouring country objects, and most other countries in the relevant continent agree with the objection, but there is nothing they can do about it.

Where does justice lie? Depends whether we're talking about Ukraine or the Falklands, I suppose.
