About
About
This is a page for members and followers of the Folk21 initiative, where they can advertise their gigs, venues, and opportunities for other musicians.
Description
Here is the link to the Folk21 group on fb : https://www.facebook.com/groups/313050502151758/

If you aren't already a member of the F21 page and you are in anyway involved in the small venue guest booking folk music environment do come and join us there to share your ideas, thoughts and questions and enter the free wheeling debates !

This is what we are about :

1. Folk21 aspires to be the premiere organisation in the UK to represent the interests and views of folk, roots and acoustic guest booking clubs, venues and the artists they book. We are working actively to develop the existing spokesperson roles many of us already find ourselves in, for the benefit of the group, as well as the genre as a whole.

2. Folk 21 was set up to support and strengthen the network of folk clubs and venues and foster a sense of mutual cooperation in order to make all events attract bigger audiences for the benefit of everyone associated with the folk, roots and acoustic music scene. We want to elevate the public profile of the clubs and venues across the country and help them attract a broader audience, in terms of increasing attendance numbers as well as, and we feel very strongly about this, broadening the age range of the audience by encouraging younger audiences to attend the events in
addition to promoting the booking of the less experienced younger musicians who are performing or taking part.

3. We believe that the folk, roots and acoustic club and small venue network provides an essential and important cultural role in providing developmental opportunities and showcases for both established and emerging musicians.

4. We recognise that a variety of formats can and do exist within guest booking clubs/venues and that the format is entirely a matter for the organiser of an individual club. We accept that different clubs and venues run their evenings in different ways, from concert style to floor singers and guest style, in accordance to what they feel their audience prefer. We are happy to share ideas with existing movers and shakers and with anyone who wants to get involved. We hope that together we can help to generate and spread new ideas and boost the health and reputation of the folk, roots and acoustic club and small venue network as a whole.

5. We don't want to get into the "What is folk music" argument. There are other places to discuss that, and no real answer has ever satisfied everybody. We at Folk21 acknowledge and celebrate that there are many different influences within folk, roots and acoustic music. We believe the choice of guest artists is entirely the business of individual clubs.

We hope that all of our members support us in respect of the above points and to keep discussion positive and forward thinking. We encourage maximum cooperation and communication between all of us who are involved in the folk, roots and acoustic movement in the UK to ensure we have a thriving and strong folk club and small venue network.
