I understand only too well, and still occasionally meet former cats in dreams, some of whom lived to a ripe old age, some who didn't (the latter always killed by motorists.)  The good bit is that they're always happy when you dream about them.  Before long you'll probably start wanting to adopt a kitten, so do it!  There are so many that need a home.
