We were discussing the panic started by Orson Wells and his "War of the Worlds" radio broadcast. The talk got around as to whether that could ever be duplicated on that big of a scale in todays world. We were pretty evenly split. Some said that because of the internet it would be a lot easier to check the facts and determine that a hoax was being played. Others said that because of the internet that people were even more gullible and that it would not be difficult to pull it off at all. As we remembered the facts the Halloween panic lasted just a few hours before folks figured it out.

Myself - I'm in the middle on this one. There are times when I believe that you can convince people of anything if they just see it on their monitor. But I'd like to think that people are more sophisticated now. Not all of my extended family of course. But people in general.
