Underestimated me, akenaton? In what way?
I have to add that during my time Prison Visiting, I also did Meals On Wheels once a month. The route was wide-ranging and we had fifteen clients, most in the depth of the countryside in Norfolk. The things we met with would bring tears to your eyes. Unlike the prisoners, these poor old folk were isolated and lonely. Many were in their nineties, and had mobility problems to say the least. Some sat huddled round a tiny fan-heater. Our meal was the only hot, cooked food they had, (delivered once a week by 4 different teams.) They sometimes smelled as no-one did their washing. I often got home in tears and worried about these dear old souls until my next shift. They'd committed no crimes, but the difference between the pathetic 'care' they got and the high standard of prison conditions struck me forcibly. My friend Ann and I decided to stop after a couple of years; it was just too sad.
