But it does remind me of something.

For a while, recently, an old mate of the family lodged with me. For a long time, and a long time ago, he had been an item with my older daughter and it was a relationship with violence on both sides (she smashed up his Scalectrix set!). But that is not the current point.

At a family party they reconnected.

He was planning to move to another country (in due course) for a better job, and moved to different lodgings. I lent him a guitar - not an expensive one.

Then he disappeared. Turned up again as an item with said daughter again.

Then he vanished again with a goodly dollop of her money and her laptop with irreplaceable photos on. I tried to find him for obvious reasons - and it transpired that he had left, at said daughters "his guitar" that she was planning to sell on ebay to get back at him.

Guess whose guitar that was!
