"Canada profited from an influx of educated, hard-working, law-abiding immigrants in your Civil War" - that would have been the first Civil War, the one that started in 1776. (Flora MacDonald of Bonnie Prince Charlie fame was one of them).

I believe there were also a fair few at the time of the second Civil War in the 1860s.
