Have to disagree with Malcolm regarding the A64 on a Sunday afternoon, if the weather is good there is often a large amount of traffic due to a backlog cause by the traffic earlier in the day. However it is the most direct route to Whitby for those coming from places west .... Leeds, Manchester, Cheshire etc etc

Carry some good CD's and relax with the music is the best you can do.
