Thread Name: Query - 'Satan saw his power was gone'
Subject: Query - 'Satan saw his power was gone'
Hello,

I am transcribing songs that James Madison Carpenter collected in Gloucestershire for the "Single Gloucester" project and have come across this strange one, collected from Robert Lawrence of Chedworth:

Satan saw his power was gone (x3)
He flew like lightning through the air from his throne
Hossana to the lamb of God. (x2)
Hark! Ten thousand voices cry.(x2)
Victory, Victory, Victory [He] dost come.
Swiftly fly the welcome voices,
Spread his rapturous souls all round.
Swiftly fly the welcome voice
Spread his rapturous souls all round.
Glory, glory, let us sing.(x3)
Whilst heaven and earth their glories ring.
Hossana to the Lamb of God. (x2)

Has anyone come across this one before, or if not could anyone suggest its origin?
