Hoser was recently on the table at an international meeting of North American etymology inexperts. They dropped it on the floor a few times when the Canadian suggested it might be a steeltown pronounciation of the American word, Hoosier which some of us have trouble pronouncing. The American suggested that Hoosier was a more scared word for buffoon. Here in Orillia we have an even more refined version of the word, which you might use if you were approached by a harmonicas wearing folksinger trying to sell you bootlegged pantyhose. Then you might say, "Get out of here, you hosier."
