I think you'll find if you simply left click the symbol in the lower left hand corner it will toggle between the old Win 7 look screen and the new Win8 screen. You can work off of that instead of the fluid "metro tile" screen from Win8. Any time you click on one of the tiles that doesn't have a Win8 setup, it will open in the older desktop.

My next door neighbor caught me as I was leaving the house this morning to tell me that thieves stopped by his front yard a couple of nights ago and picked up a bunch of ornamental paving stones that they took 2 blocks up the street and proceeded to use after they jacked up a truck to steal all four tires. Left the truck perched atop his pavers. I'm directly across the street from him and I've been parking in the garage at night since it's cold, but this tells me it is all the more imperative to park inside. Zeke with his race out the door trick is why I don't bother all of the time. It's time to finish the dog enclosure, put up the last bit to keep the dogs from exiting around the gate into the rest of the garage. Then I can come and go without worrying about him. I'll put this on the top of my to-do list over the long break next week.
