You can buy Windows Media Center from Microsoft for $10. I did that when I got my Win8 laptop. It's a download once you pay for it - just do a search at Microsoft.

I just looked at my Win8. If you don't have a "desktop" tile on Win8 already, you can create a tile that takes you to a desktop that looks like Win7. That is where any non-Win8 programs will run by default anyway. I'll have to think about it, or research to tell you how, I don't remember what I did if I created that tile, but it may already be there. Then you click on that to get to the old desktop or click on the corner windows icon in the desktop to get back to the new metro screen.
