When we were still a couple I was the one who most often wore hats.

My den is a step down from the kitchen and the house builders put in a metal rail along the top of that long step, leaving a gap to walk through. There is a knob on each side of that metal rail gap, and I hang my yard ballcaps there. A couple of them are the clean ones to wear when going out in public (like over to Home Depot to buy more top soil or lumber) and then there are the grungy ones for dog walks and working in the garden. My hall closet houses some fine straw hats with broad brims from my days of working in desert regions, and I have a fine woven palm Panama hat for yard work. There are a couple of old straw cowboy hats from when the kids were little, and I have a whole bunch of knitted and crocheted headgear for very cold weather. And my hats that I can't get rid of but that I also don't wear are several vintage Stetsons worn during my many years as a park ranger. Every so often I pull one out just to prove I really was a ranger. Who else would buy a "Smoky the Bear" hat?
