Many of the substantial houses in Roslin village were built to house the masons who in Victorian times re furbished the worn carvings on the pillars and interior.The houses had all mod cons with fully fitted bathrooms for the masons who ranged from master masons to specially chosen apprentices.They came from all over Scotland and saw it as an honour to work on the chapel.
