Dan, years ago I met a man in Alberta who made bean spoons. The spoons looked a little like this. The theory was that for foods that cause flatulance, one would leave the spoon in the pot as the food heated up. The little farts would then climb the ladder and jump over the side. Et voila. No more problem.
