Thread Name: Seek Recording: Missionaries (Westerman)
Subject: ADD: Missionaries (Westerman)
This is a song we're hoping to include in the upcoming Rise Again songbook. We don't have copyright permission yet, so we may have to drop it.
What I'm wondering is if anybody can find a recording of this song on Spotify, so that I can include it on our "Rise Again" Spotify playlist. So, what I need is the Spotify URL for this song.
It's a powerful song, and not particularly complimentary to the missionaries who worked in the Americas - I suppose they, like Junipero Serra, mostly came from my Catholic Church. And I'm sure some, maybe many, of them deserve this severe judgment.
Spread the word of your religion Convert the whole world if you can Kill & slaughter those who oppose you It's worth it if you save one man Take the land to build your churches A sin to tax the house of God Take the child while he is supple Spoil the mind & spare the rod C - / Em - / F - / G - / 1st 3 / G C
Go & tell the savage native That he must be christianized Tell him end his heathen worship And you'll make him civilized Shove your gospel, force your values Down his throat until it's raw And after he is crippled Turn your back & lock the door
Like an ever circling vulture You descend upon your prey Then you pick the soul to pieces And you watch them as they decay 'Cos religion is big business As your bank accounts will show And Christ died to save all mankind But that was long ago
Missionary[ies] (x2) Go and leave us all alone Save the soul of all your white men We've a God [way] of our own (repeat)
On his Custer Died for Your Sins. Westerman (1936-2007) was a leading Native American activist, musician & actor.
