Nigel, the Irish people I know are fond of tea, and there might be sparkling soft drinks and juices available which could be mixed with alcohol but could also be drunk plain. And there's always tap water. I do drink alcohol, but not when I'm driving, and I go almost everywhere alone, so I've had lots of experience with this!
