I thought Free would have had much more success if they'd written 'All Right Then' rather than the minor hit they had. Sandy Denny would have done better if she'd written 'Who Knows Where the Bus Goes?' it would have been much more accessible.

I wonder if they had the same advice and help?

If your song survives your friend's 'help' and becomes really famous then you'll have to deal with all the parodies...
