He called me out of the blue one day, just to pass on some compliments on a CD I made. He didn't have to do that and I have no idea where he got my phone number, but there he was, big as life on the other end of a phone line. He was a really, really funny guy, and a sweetheart in the bargain, and I have been happier for knowing he was in the world.
