Steve - the asterisks were inserted to show a break between parts. I'm sure he didn't have the original. Jim has pointed out the main differences. I assume the two stanzas are translated:

6. He's taken her by the milk-white hand,
And likewise by the grass-green sleeve,
And laid her down upon the green,
