Take Campbell's soup fer yer example. Best before? The Yankee military requires a minimum fourty year shelf life for canned goods and they buy from Campbell. It may not be "fresh" but it still tastes okay if ya boil it fer a bit (and add some fresh veggies). These BB dates are misleading at best.
