At school, I recall that the (very few) who had been snipped were called Roundheads whilst we were Cavaliers.

I do know that it is far more popular in non religious terms in The US than here in The UK. I have read that the reason why it has become linked with religious ritual is, in the same way as not eating omnivore meat, it was a sensible public health measure of the time that got wrapped in scripture.
