Thread Name: BS: What do you call your bread?
Subject: RE: BS: What do you call your bread?
Larry, Challa is an egg bread that is traditionally eaten on Shabes(the Sabath) by observant Jews. It is braided prior to baking and it makes the BEST toast ever with butter and strawberry jam.
That's from the Memsahibs side of the family.
From mine, cornbread, and I don't mean that crap mix they sell that has sugar in it and no texture and tastes like sawdust.
I mean real cornbread, made of stone-ground meal and baked in the oven in an iron skillet.
If you want some REALLY fine cornbread, save the grease next time you cook a goose ( sorry all you vegans) and use that instead of vegetable oil. You won't regret it.
We call corn sticks "pones".
