Subject: RE: BS: What do you call your bread?
In addition to regular bread, we also eat tortillas. A flat foldable bread made out of either corn or wheat. A fine addition from the Spanish part of the American West's culture. (Although I understand that in Spain, unlike in Mexico, a tortilla is an omelet.) If you like crunch, you can fry the tortilla before putting the fillings in or on. Traditional fillings are spicy ground cooked meat with cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. Or beans and rice.

Bagels: a small tube of dough is curved so the ends join, making a circle about 5 inches across with a hole in the middle. The dough is supposedly first boiled and then baked. Usually served with cream cheese and lox. Associated with Jews and New York. Usually eaten in the morning or at noon.

Donuts: the same shape as above, but formed by cutting the hole out of the middle of a circle of dough. Always fried and very sweet. Frequently topped with sugar, sugar glaze, frosting, sprikles or chocolate. Famous food for police officers in the US. Another morning food.

Pita: Mediterraneun/Middle Eastern style flat bread.

Muffins: small sweet breads often eaten for breakfast. Cooked in circular pans about 3 inches across. Usually 6 or 12 circles in a "muffin tin." While they can be bought at stores or bakeries, this is the bread only bread in this post I make at home.
