The waves were huge and scary, though they were blown out somewhat as they came up the beach due to the strength of the wind. We waited until later to go to have a look when the tide was right up and the sand wasn't blowing so much. The beach car park was six inches deep in foam that looked just like snow. The bank between Widemouth beach and the coast road is breached at one point and sand had drifted to about two feet deep on most of the road. Several people tried to drive uphill through it and got stuck. Getting out of the car was an option only if you didn't mind having your skin stripped off by the blowing sand. The main blow lasted for about fifteen hours. I'm guessing it was around force ten for much of that time. Not very ladylike, Imogen.
