A great singer and a great human being. I first got to know him in the 70s when I brought him to Ireland for some folk club dates. He was a superb performer and an equally lovely house guest - not to mention a passionate Nottingham Forest supporter!

We met up occasionally after that - at Loughborough and when he again played in Belfast (with the late Cyril Tawney).

Folk music has lost a giant. My thoughts are with his family.
