Hi Lester. You certainly sound like you know what you are talking about but my in my version of Audacity, 2.0.5, I go to

File
Export

and I get the option of a dozen or more types of file to save to including MP3 files and WAVs.

I spent some time today converting WAVs to MP3s to put on my MP3 player. It is slow but it is there.
