There is a nursery I drive past some days on my way to work that seems to have steel 55 gallon drums for sale. It's tempting* to use one of those as a burning barrel - with compost, recycling, and burning there would rarely be any trash to go to the curb. Too bad I can't opt out of the rubbish part of the city fee (water, sewer, trash). I put a small amount of trash at the curb every two weeks (they pick up twice a week). The one exception is that I use the quarterly bulky waste pickup once a year to get rid of large tree limbs and brush I don't have time or equipment to chip. This spring I'll put out bulky stuff after I cut up some of those limbs with a reciprocating saw so they're the right size for the trash guys.

*Tempting but probably not good for air quality, at least not if all of us were burning our trash.
