Two things, Raggy:

There is the assumption that Americans "don't get it". I get it. Sometimes it's funny, and sometimes it's pathetic because there's somebody who thinks they're flying under the radar, while I'm often wondering why they aren't embarrassed for being a truly epic and hard-to-achieve degree of "smug" and "clueless" at the same time.

The problem with the lack of insight happens because those who do the slagging off don't understand that assorted people with different degrees and tolerance of those who come off as "more enlightened than thou" are reading what they write. They seem to believe all of those people should adapt their thinking, instead of the individual slaggers trying to be easily understood. The planet isn't British, and it makes more sense, and is definitely kinder to consider other people when you write than to be a persistent snot.
