Subject: RE: Origins: Connemara Rose
Coincidentally I heard this for the first time last week when someone sang it at a local Open Mic in Co. Down, which would be 150 miles or more away from Co. Galway. I think Maam (which would be some miles NW of Oughterard, which in turn is some miles north of Galway City) is the correct version (I haven't been in Maam for a while so can't remember if there is a church there). There is another place called Maam Cross a few miles away from Maam, where some years ago (about 15 or 16) I remember seeing a large number of Peacock butterflies, one of which I filmed being eaten by a large dragonfly. About 100 yard away there is an hotel. Its name? Peacock's Hotel!
