On the whole, politicians are self-serving folks, who say and do what they consider they need to do to gain votes to win a place in a level of society they consider to be elite and powerful.
A large percentage of the conservative party are independently wealthy, giving them a blinkered view of the people they purport to govern.
Honesty and integrity are not in the job description.
