Thread Name: Lyr Req: Bottle of Wine additional verse
Subject: DT Correction: Bottle of Wine (Tom Paxton)
Here's my transcription of "Bottle of Wine" from Paxton's 1965 album Ain't that News. There are a few differences from the DT version.
BOTTLE OF WINE
(Tom Paxton)
CHORUS
Bottle of wine, fruit of the vine
When you gonna let me get sober
Let (*leave) me alone, let me go home
Let me go back and start over
Ramblin' around this dirty old town
Singin' for nickels and dimes
Times getting tough (*rough), I ain't got enough
To buy a little bottle of wine
CHORUS
Little hotel, older than hell
Dark as the coal in a mine
Blankets are thin, I lay there and grin
'Cause I got a little bottle of wine
CHORUS
Pain in my head and bugs in my bed
Pants are so old that they shine
Out on the street, tell the people I meet
Won'tcha buy me a bottle of wine
CHORUS
Well, a preacher will teach, teacher will teach
A miner will dig in the mine
I ride the rods, trusting in God
And hugging my bottle of wine
CHORUS

*I have a 1965 Tom Paxton songbook from Oak Publications. It has the third line of the chorus as, "Leave me alone, let me go home." That's the way I learned the song.
*The songbook has "times gettin' rough" in the first verse.
