My Mum says she used to sing this song too, around 1936/7 in Lancashire, and remembers doing the dance wearing sparking clogs. She remembers sing Ja Ja Ja (Ya ya ya) and instead of with, they sang 'Mitt purple, mitt pink and mitt yellow" and the slightly different words "Lena's been patching her Jacob till you can't see dem britches at all"
