Gluon isn't really very fast. He just knows lots of shortcuts. After all, a duckdog is a rather awkward construct. His duck half keeps him from being able to run like a dog, and his dog half keeps him from flying like a duck. He'd never stand a chance in a footrace against anything faster than a slime mold. He compensates for his physical limitations by using worm holes, space-time anomalies, gravity waves, and pan-dimensional slip-n-slides to make it look like he's hauling ass when he's barely waddling along. He doesn't get from New York to Paris in mere seconds by being fast. He does it by folding space so that New York and Paris are next-door neighbors. In other words, he cheats.
