I've done that Steve. In our last house we had half an acre of garden bordering on farmland. In August I used to lie on a rug and count the shooting stars. You never know from which direction each one will come, so you need to have a wide-angle view and stare straight ahead. I once counted 57. It always struck me as weird that they didn't make a 'whoosh!' sound!
I also saw bats, rats, a handsome fox and some rabbits, all equally startled to see me lying there on the ground in the dark.
