When I first saw the movie I was kind of shocked that Neil Diamond was included. I later read in Levon's book that Robbie was in the process of producing an album for Diamond for which he was paid 250K. Levon apparently suggested they use Doc Pomus to represent Tin Pan Alley. I'm sure that would have worked out better than the sappy number Diamond did.
