Set off this morning for our weekly supermarket shop, and I was sad to see quite a few large trees with their roots sticking up in the air. Many fairly big bits of trees, branches and so on, lying on the verges of the roads, which had obviously been dragged aside by workers.
One of our neighbours has had his entire garage roof 'removed' and he's got it tarpaulined until it can be fixed.
It's often the silver birches that get blown over,as their roots are shallow, and they like sandy soil, which gives them less stability.
You're right about Boscastle Steve. My husband told me recently that even in Ivory Coast it was on the TV News, complete with film. His old mum was worried, as she thought her son over in UK was going to be drowned!
