I didn't know Les well, but I certainly do know musicians who have benefited hugely from the Beech session (and its successor), and the tune books he had a hand in producing. It's no exaggeration to say that lives have been changed as the result of his efforts.

He was also a very canny prodder of discussions (and sometimes a poker of hornets' nests) on this forum. He had a genuinely enquiring mind, a priceless asset.
