I had the privilege of getting to know Bessie Jones and the rest of the Sea Island Singers when I met them on The Poor Peoples Campaign in Resurrection City in Washington D.C. in 1968. What wonderful, warm, friendly people. The showed the different handclaps they used (bass, tenor, alto), although I could never quite get the rhythms quite right.
