Thread Name: Songs about chickens
Subject: Lyr Add: IT TAKES THE OLD HEN TO DELIVER THE GOODS
IT TAKES THE OLD HEN TO DELIVER THE GOODS
As recorded by Cliff Carlisle, 1936.

My shanghai rooster he's a wonderful chick.
There's never a rooster than he cannot lick.
He struts and he cackles way down in the woods,
But it takes the old hen to deliver the goods.

The old shanghai crows; he does it for fun.
He puts the old dominecker hen on the run.
They go for a walk way down in the woods,
And there the old hen delivers the goods.

The old dominecker delivers the goods
For the old shanghai way down in the woods.
The shanghai can crow while down in the woods,
But it takes the old hen to deliver the goods.

The old rooster crows way down in the woods,
And wishes that he could deliver the goods.
He stands back and watches way down in the woods
While the old dominecker delivers the goods.

[The tune resembles "The Man on the Flying Trapeze."]
