Ha! This makes me think of that lovely children's bedtime programme on CBeebies (BBC TV) called 'In The Night Garden'. It features a little toy that goes to sleep in its bed, which becomes a boat. It sets off across the sea to another land each night.

I find the poem absolutely haunting and beautiful. I remember it from my childhood.
