Thread Name: Lyr Req: songs about hot dogs
Subject: Lyr Add: HOT DOG MAN (Sam Theard)
I would classify this song as hokum. I can imagine a jug band doing it. Ordinarily I would not bother to post 8 copies of a chorus, but Theard so persistently introduces minor variations that I think his effort should be documented.

HOT DOG MAN
As recorded by Lovin' Sam Theard, 1929.

1. Mama is worried, and my papa too.
They all upset 'bout my sister Sue

'Cause she crazy 'bout a hot-dog man.
Oh, she's always hangin' 'round his stand.
She's the funniest gal in the land,
Wild about a hot-dog man, yes, sir,
She's a fool about a hot-dog man.

2. She stays out at night till three o'clock,
Followin' that man around the block.

Oh, she crazy 'bout a hot-dog man.
She's always hangin' 'round his stand.
She's the funniest gal in the land.
She crazy 'bout a funny-lookin' hot-dog man,
Crazy 'bout a hot-dog man.

3. Maybe it's them good hot dogs makes her love him so,
Or something else; I don't know,

But she crazy 'bout a hot-dog man.
She's always hangin' 'round his stand.
She's the funniest gal in the land,
Wild about a hot-dog man, yes, sir,
Goin' crazy 'bout a hot-dog man.

4. Ain't no use jokin' an' it ain't no bluff.
That hot dog man must know his stuff,

'Cause she crazy 'bout that hot-dog man.
She's always hangin' 'round his stand.
She's the funniest gal in the land,
Goin' crazy 'bout a hot-dog man, yes, sir,
Crazy 'bout a hot-dog man.

5. Pa put that hot-dog man in jail.
My sister Sue, she went his bail,

'Cause she crazy 'bout that hot-dog man.
Oh. she's always hangin' 'round his stand.
She's the funniest gal in the land,
Wild about that hot-dog man, yes, sir.
She's a fool about the hot-dog man.

6. She's my own dear sister but I'm forced to say:
There never was no hot dog could make you act that way,

'Cause she crazy 'bout that hot-dog man.
She's always hangin' 'round his stand.
She's the funniest gal in the land,
Wild about the hot-dog man.
I don't know, but she's just a fool about that hot-dog man.

7. Listen here, folks; I'm tellin' you:
That hot-dog man has put that thing on Sue,

'Cause she crazy 'bout that hot-dog man.
She's always hangin' 'round his stand.
She's the funniest gal in the land,
Wild about that hot-dog man, yes, sir,
That same ol' hot-dog man.

8. Oh, buys her clo'es, sends her to school,
But that hot-dog man done turned her [a] fool,

'Cause she crazy 'bout a hot-dog man.
Oh, funniest gal in the land.
She's the funniest gal in the land,
Wild about a hot-dog man, yes, sir,
A funny-lookin' hot-dog man.

[Theard also wrote (I'LL BE GLAD WHEN YOU'RE DEAD) YOU RASCAL YOU, famously recorded by Louis Armstrong.]
