You might be right, punkfolkrocker. I never thought of it in that light.

I just thought that, after over 50 years of writing the scripts they probably ran out of new ideas and then it all started to get a bit clouded and confusing.

When it was first screened in Oz it was weekdays at about 6 pm, so tea time. I used to get up and leave the room when the Daleks came on. The cold, inhuman voices saying "exterminate, exterminate" and that electric lightning which caused such obvious agony to the dying person.

(Which reminds me - totally off-topic - of the cold inhumanity and the executions in the new version of my favourite author, Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale. I'm struggling to watch each episode because of the portrayal of "man's inhumanity to (wo)man". I read the book when it first came out 30 years ago, and saw the Natasha Richardson movie, but this one is scary - maybe in the light of current world events.)
