Thread Name: BS: Books: Talking Dragons
Subject: RE: BS: Books: Talking Dragons
HarperCollins has completed its first printing of "Destiny's Conflict,"
the tenth book in the Wars of Light and Shadow by Janny Wurts.
Ms. Wurts reports at her webpage that her author's hardback copy has just been delivered to her.
The delivery of pre-orders for all of us continuing readers, though,
is uncertain.
The printing of the books is in England, so the UK will be getting its pre-orders filled before very long.
As for the North American pre-orders....those are on a container ship crossing the Atlantic from the UK to New York City's office of HarperCollins. And in the book-publishing and distribution world, this point in time is so close to the Christmas crunch, that if things get too hectic in September, it may be AFTER Christmas before the pre-orders are delivered !

... not the best of news ...
Such is Ms. Wurts's planning and pacing, in this massive fantasy series, that although the dragons on the fictional planet of Athera were spoken of, from the very beginning, it was Book number Eight, "Stormed Fortress," before a dragon actually came fully out of its hiding phase and flew threw the skies where all could see it. See her, actually. She then proceeded to destroy an entire ancient city.

In the ninth (most recent) book, we discovered that there is a great old drake, a male dragon, lurking on the far side of a gate/portal to the planet, where only the Fellowship of Sorcerers, all seven of them, are in a position to know what is going on.

I suspect that a dragon or two will turn up and create havoc at some point in Destiny's Conflict.
