Thread Name: Book: Folk Songs Of Central West Virginia
Subject: ADD: Bottled in Bond
Isn't one. The only song in the book attributed to Jenes Cottrell is a version of Child 278. Perhaps you're speaking of "Bottled in Bond," which is credited to Aunt Jenny Wilson, Logan Co, WV. "She describes it as 'a real old blues.'" I don't see any particular resemblance between it and "Train," though both are obviously rounder songs of fairly similar vintage. Notes are brief and non-analytical, giving no context whatever. (Bought this book from one of the Morris Bros at a concert in Fairmont, 1967 or 1968.)
Bottled in Bond
Well, I'll tell you boys, there is something gone wrong
From the way I feel I won't be here long.
Drink that bottled in bond
Drink that bottled in bond
Don't drink nothing but that bottled in bond.
When your woman gets mad and she wants to fight
Just grab an old chair and run her out of sight
When your woman leaves you, don't you wear no black
When she gets hungry, she'll come draggin' back
Well I don't want sugar in my morning tea
Was a West Virginia man made a fool of me
